How memory works

Class transcript

Memory is more than storing information. Connecting new knowledge with previous experience helps us understand it and retrieve it later.

Ideas to take with you
  • Encoding, storage, and retrieval are three processes of memory.
  • Active recall helps strengthen learning beyond rereading.
  • Space your review over time to build long-term memory.
